Dupré, Marcel Websites

French early 20th Century organist and composer Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) was himself the son of an organist father and a cellist mother. His memory and improvisational skills were as advanced as his compositional ability. At the tender age of 18, he won the Prix de Rome for his cantata Psyché. In 1920, in a series of 10 recitals, he played the complete organ works of J. S. Bach from memory, gaining world renown. Throughout his life, audiences would gather to marvel at his improvisations.- Category ID : 24341
