MeeGo is a Linux-based mobile operating system. It came to exist in 2010 as the merger of Intel’s Moblin project and Nokia’s Maemo project. It was hosted by the Linux Foundation, but it canceled MeeGo in September 2011 in favor of Tizen. When the collaboration began, Nokia was already developing the next version of Maemo. The Maemo 6 base was kept intact, but the Handset UX was shared, and the name changed to “MeeGo/Harmattan”. This powered the Nokia N9 smartphone.
